Relevant Teaching Responsibilities

ISS210 “Introduction to Social Problems,” Graduate Teaching Assistant, Fall 2011

I consulted with the instructor of record in the design of the syllabus and the extra content to be used (videos and supplemental book). The instructor of record went on leave mid-semester and I taught most of the remaining lectures (six).

Vladimir Shlapentokh, Eric Beasely and I redesigned this course from its previous form. SOC281 “Research Methods I,” Fall 2013

I participated in syllabus design and textbook selection. I was the lab instructor for two of the four sections and was in charge of grading for my section.

SOC282 “Research Methods II,” Spring 2013

I contributed to syllabus design and textbook selection, designed lab plans and lab assignments, taught two of the four lab sections, was in charge of grading for two sections and taught combined-class lectures. I was also commissioned to design and implement an assessment tool for assessing course learning outcomes and preparing a report of the findings to be used by the department.

The assessment tool that I developed is still in use by the department for that course. In my last semester teaching in Research Methods, student comprehension of basic statistical concepts improved by 65.68 percent over the course of the semester and improved by 14.98 percent compared to the previous year. Students that adopted sketching and visualization strategies that I gave them in the first week of class improved 77.42 percent over the course of the semester.

SOC282 “Research Methods II,” Fall 2014
